Glideaway Addresses a Wide Spectrum
of Consumer Wants and Needs
By: Dale T. Read, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief
Glideway Sleep Products must be doing something right for
bedding/mattress retailers and their customers. A little story makes
the point. Last summer when this editor arrived early on Sunday
afternoon at the Specialty Sleep Association (SSA) Show in Las
Vegas, Glideaway National Sales Manager Rick Snider was meeting with
dealers and actually writing an order even as many other exhibitors
were setting up their booths. A mental note was made; this may have
been the very first order of the show. A very busy week passed with
numerous dealers visiting numerous exhibitors and according to
Snider a steady stream of prospects and sales for Glideaway. This
editor returned to the SSA show area Friday afternoon at the last
hour of the last day, and there with virtually every other exhibitor
tearing down their show booths, sat Snider with two dealers who were
signing the last order of the show, perhaps an hour after every
other sales person had quit. This editor’s simple conclusion, not
only was Snider a pretty amazing sales person writing both the
opening and the closing orders of the show, but Glideaway must have
a very compelling and attractive product/price offering to draw
retailers from the very first minutes all through the show to the
last minutes of the last day.
Glideaway is a St Louis-based, family-owned company with over 50
years of experience supplying the furniture industry with steel bed
products, but today Glideaway has an exploding presence in the
specialty sleep industry with a broad line of visco-elastic memory
foam, latex, visco/latex, and adjustable bed products as well as an
extensive line of pillows and mattress protectors.

BEDROOM’s publisher experienced the six visco memory foam mattresses
named the Bravura, the Ultima, the Elegance, the Supreme, the
Superb, and the Comfort as well as the Latex foam mattress
collection. Each of these memory foam beds offered different
construction, a variety of comfort and support levels within the
overall memory foam category. The Bravura, for example, a product
that offers “luxury quilted to ultra-premium memory foam” comes with
top layer of 7lb. memory foam quilted to a luxury knot jacquard.
Beneath that is 2.5 inches of 3lb. memory foam, which rests on 2
inches of a 5lb visco foam which is built upon 5 inches of 2 lb.
high density base foam. The entire mattress is encased in a 9 inch
by 3 inch 2lb high density foam edge support system for stability
and durability. Each of the other mattresses in this line-up is
formulated with various densities and layers of engineered products
to offer a choice of luxury, firmness, comfort and support at
competitive price ranges.
Glideway’s latex mattresses were inspired by precious gems including
Diamond, Sapphire and Jade. The Diamond offers consumers a quilted
knit jacquard cover with Aloe Vera with three inches of
ultra-premium Talalay latex on top of three inches of latex on top
of two layers of high-density foam materials and high density edge
support. As with the memory foam lines, Glideaway has designed and
marketed a choice of materials and construction offering a range of
comfort, support and prices for consumers.
The Supreme and Freedom Adjustable beds feature patent pending dual
internal/external steel frame construction, massage options and 6
leg balance design. Glideaway says they market this as the
“guaranteed strongest adjustable frame in the industry.” On top of
that, Glideaway offers a 20-year pro-rated warranty on these
adjustables.
Glideaway’s top-of-bed products include an extensive pillow line as
well as stain-proof mattress protector products with anti-microbial,
dust mite barrier and breathable “new age” fabric. Glideaway pillows
are made with memory foam, latex, goose down, synthetic fibers and
high loft fiber and are available with a full arrange of fashion and
functional styles including covers made of cotton and polyester,
cashmere and satin, cashmere velour and quilted outer cover,
jacquard velour reversible satin, 100% cotton covers to and more.
