All About The Beds

“What’s Your Favorite Position?” asks Comfor-Pedic™

The industry innovators at Comfor-Pedic™ plan to set-forth a revolutionary new product launch at the Las Vegas Furniture Market in July 2006.

The NUVÖ Sleep System™, as it is called, will “change the retail, and subsequently, the consumer mindset in regards to movable foundations targeted at the Gen X and Gen Y demographics; two of the most underserved yet highly profitable age segmentations,” according to Jack Squires, President.

“The NUVÖ™ movable base is so unique; the base in and of itself carries two international patents,” he added
BEDROOM magazine inquired as to what specifically sets the NUVÖ base apart. Squires answered the question in a two fold reply: “First, the base has three actuator motors that work in concert,” said Squires. “The utilization of three actuators means that the NUVÖ™ base can adjust to many more and unique positions than the sea of two actuator models now flooding the market.”

“Secondly,” Squires continued, “the NUVÖ™ base also features a patented surface material, which we call Omni-FLEX™. This surface, which contacts directly with the base of the mattress, has a flex action to it, allowing the surface material to move freely with the action of the base thereby allowing the bed to achieve the many different positions made possible by the actuators.”

Challenge:
The challenge that faced the Comfor-Pedic™ product development team was that the action of the NUVÖ™ moveable base is so highly specialized that it precludes the use of traditional innerspring bedding as well as conventional specialty bedding in conjunction with the base. Scott Smalling, CEO and head of product development for the company reported, “We realized that mattresses currently on the market are simply not capable of enough of a level of articulation for the NUVÖ™ moveable base to achieve full performance. Therefore the base would be unable to demonstrate its complete capabilities and application, which dramatically limits its differentiation in the market.”

Solution:
In order to maximize the capabilities and attain true and distinct differentiation in the market, Smalling and Squires designed the NUVÖ™ mattress. “Comfor-Pedic™ has engineered two new innovations designed specifically to enable the NUVÖ™ mattress to work in perfect harmony with the base, thus creating the NUVÖ Sleep System™,” Smalling said.

“The NUVÖ™ mattress is created entirely of comfort materials, meaning there is no true base foam as found in other specialty products,” explained Squires. “The bed is comprised of our Comfor™ Material on top, supported by a latex core. However, under the latex is our newest material, Reaction™ foam.”

According to Smalling the new Reaction™ material “is springy, resilient and yet utterly pliable, allowing for the mattress to achieve maximum flexibility without undue torque.”

In conjunction with the new Reaction™ material, Comfor-Pedic™ has also developed the Hinged Bed™ pivot points. “The Hinged Bed™ (patent pending) innovation is a series of channels in the Reaction™ material, which work as hinges in the mattress itself at the key points of articulation, thereby allowing the mattress to achieve every position in harmony with the base,” related Smalling.

The unique performance of the NUVÖ Sleep System™ is enhanced by a sleek streamlined design in the base with a silver color and black accents. “This system will appeal to upscale consumers, in particular the Gen X and Gen Y demographic, with high disposable incomes and the craving for luxurious, life-enhancing products,” Squires said.

The ‘system’, which will only be sold as a set, will retail at $5,000. and will be the new top-end offering from Comfor-Pedic™.
