Spring Air: New Features Update Product Line and New Warranty Backs Up Commitment

Spring Air is taking a four-fold approach to its bedding brands, each of which is backed by a re-merchandised product line. The brands: Back Supporter Classic, Back Supporter Four Seasons, Nature’s Rest and Chattam & Wells are not new, but each offers new features and benefits. The marketing and point-of-sale materials are designed to appeal to the four different types of bedding consumers.

The premium collection is Chattam & Wells “Sophisticated Elegance,” which Spring Air is positioning as ‘simply the best luxury mattress.’ The line features Pocket-in-Pocket encased coil technology, in which one coil is encased inside another. The coils are arranged in a zoned design for additional comfort and support. Talalay latex quilting and upholstery add to the luxurious feel of the bedding. Chattam & Wells, which will retail from $1,999 to $5,999 also features silk damask fabrics. Some models will incorporate double pillow-top designs. The mattresses will rest on upholstered, encased zoned and tempered micro-coil foundations.

The Nature’s Rest, “The World’s Best Latex” line, retailing from $999 to $2,999, is being positioned as an organic latex mattress for a better pressure relieving sleep. It is completely eco-friendly with natural latex, natural fibers like cashmere quilting combined with organic cotton covers, eco-friendly foams and a wood foundation. The European latex components in the line will give consumers the healthiest sleep possible. The aerated latex provides a cool, comfortable sleep.

The new Back Supporter line has two collections: Back Supporter Classic “Better For Your Back” and Back Supporter Four Seasons “The Luxury of the Finest Hotels.” Together they are projected to represent 75 percent of the company’s volume in 2008, as it positions itself as the Back Supporter Company.

Back Support Classic, retailing from $499 to $899, is positioned as being “clinically proven to relieve back pain.” The heart of that unit is the new Active-Coil, designed by Leggett & Platt and exclusive to Spring Air. The tempered coils are ergonomically zoned to provide extra support, and features stronger steel to reduce sway and bottoming out.

The zoned foams in the Back Supporter line include Conforma foam and tri-zone memory foam. The line also features new “Performance Edge Support,” which provides reinforced edge support and increases the sleeping surface by 20 percent.

Back Supporter Four Seasons is positioned as “a mattress designed to relax, rejuvenate and renew for a better life.” It features the new “Power Coil” developed by Leggett & Platt and offered exclusively by Spring Air. That nine-inch coil, a third taller than competitors’, was designed solely for one sided beds. The Power Coil is used in an encased-coil format. The Four Seasons line, retailing from $799 to $2,499, also features latex and memory foams.

The “Power Coil” has three distinct zones in the coil and throughout the entire innerspring with heavier gauge wire in the center third of the unit where the sleeper needs the most support for proper spinal alignment. The top zone features conforming coils to provide comfort and to ease pressure points. The center zone provides extra support to relieve back pain and the bottom zone provides stabilization and durability. In addition to the comfort features, the key to the new innerspring design is that it increases the profile of the innerspring unit from six to nine inches, clearing demonstrating comfort and value to the consumer.

All of the Nature’s Rest and Chattam & Wells mattresses are supported by Spring Air’s new Power Foundation, a zoned support structure of imported, kiln-dried spruce wood which is 15 percent stronger than other woods. Its strength and durability offer consistent surface support (noticeable with king-sized bedding) and years of long lasting comfort.

Spring Air’s Improved Quality Prompts New Warranty Protection

The new warranty is part of Spring Air’s consumer push to drive its quality, service and value theme. The most significant change is the definition of a mattress that is deemed defective as a result of body impressions to 1.25 inches, instead of the industry standard 1.5 inches.

Spring Air said it was able to provide its consumers with greater warranty protection because of its confidence in the improved quality of all its products, including the new Power Coil.

“There is no question that with the new Power Coil construction and the improved quality standards in all our production facilities, we can provide this added level of protection for the consumer,” said Spring Air CEO Bob Hellyer. “This is a major change for the industry, and a message that our beds are so good, we’ll stand behind them at a level unthinkable, until now.”

Additionally, Nature’s Rest and Chattam & Wells warranties will extend to 20 years, and promotional mattresses will only be five years. Warranties on the majority of the new product lineup Spring Air is introducing in 2008 will remain at 10 years.
